Gaetano Gadda Fine Violin, Mantua, Italy, 1936
- Item #: V0GADDA
A Fine Italian violin by the master maker Gaetano Gadda. Made in Mantua, Italy, in 1936. A wonderful concert soloist violin with the warm tonalities of the great artisans of Mantua.
Gaetano Gadda is considered Stefano Scarampella's one true student. Gadda began working with Scarampella in 1919 and by the 1920s almost all of Scarampella's instruments are primarily the luthiery of Gaetano Gadda.
This violin, from 1936, is from one of Gadda's finest periods. It exhibits the fine craftsmanship and detail that exemplifies Gadda's best work. The violin is proudly stamped by Gadda's "GG" mark on the button of the back, beneath the chinrest at the endbutton on the ribs, and underneath the tailpiece at the saddle on the top. It also bears Gadda's label, "Gaetano Gadda di Mantova/premiato con Medaglia d'Oro/ Allievo di Stefano Scarampella/ Fece in Mantova anno 1936", with "Mantova" and "36" handwritten in the last line. In true Mantuan style, the chamfers of the scroll and pegbox, and the corners of the ribs, are blackened.
This is an exceptional violin for any musician that wants to play at a very high level. We will personally select a bow that best enhances the sound of this beautiful instrument and a case, both at no additional charge.
